Optimised Collection Containers

Collection Containers

What changes and what stays the same?

For consistency, the number and type of collection containers has been optimised. See the optimised list here for changes that may affect your order.

For most routine tests, the smaller volume is the only change.

Tube-top colours, indicating the type of anticoagulant used, remain the same except for serology tests which now need to be collected in gold-top clot tubes (not red) and a small number of specialised tests.

To minimise the amount of blood drawn from patients, in keeping with national safety and quality standards, the number of large-volume collection tubes has been reduced.

Glass tubes have been replaced with plastic to improve safety.

The recommended order of draw can be found here.
