About us

PathWest strives to improve the health and justice systems in WA, providing unique, essential and high-quality pathology and forensic services for the community.

With a team of more than 2,500 dedicated and highly skilled staff, PathWest is well placed to respond to the needs of, and make a real difference for, our communities and customers, including clinicians, WA Police Force, State Coroner, WA justice system, commercial clients and of course, our patients.

Each year, PathWest performs more than 12 million tests - from routine to highly specialised screening. This testing is used to:

Pathology services touch people at every stage of life. Each person starts their pathology journey early, in some cases receiving their first test while still in the uterus, or via the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program within days of birth. This relationship continues throughout a person’s life, and occasionally beyond, with the forensic team finding answers for bereaved families after the unexpected death of a loved one.

Statewide service

  • 11 metropolitan laboratories
  • 18 regional laboratories
  • 25 metropolitan collection centres
  • 55 regional collection centres
  • 1 forensic biology laboratory
  • 1 media manufacturing facility

As the only public pathology provider for the State, PathWest provides services throughout metropolitan and regional WA – from as far north as Kununurra, to Esperance in the south and everywhere in between.

PathWest is also responsible for several Statewide services including the State Mortuary, Statewide Perinatal Pathology Service and the Statewide Newborn Bloodspot Screening Service – meaning no matter where you are in WA, PathWest services are available.
