Temporary TPMT Activity Result Delays
17/07/2026
Due to technical issues affecting TPMT activity testing, results are currently delayed and are not expected to be available until early August. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
What should you do?
- In cases where urgent commencement of a thiopurine drug (e.g. azathioprine, 6-MP, thioguanine) is required: please contact the Duty Biochemist on 6383 4132 so that urgent pre-initiation TPMT genotyping can be organised, if required.
- If treatment with a thiopurine drug has already commenced: close clinical monitoring (including full blood counts and liver function tests as per standard recommendations) is necessary.
- Metabolite testing is available and is performed weekly with an approximate 7-day turnaround time, if required.
