What tests are available to your organisation?
General health screening tests
Modern lifestyles have contributed to the increasing prevalence of a number of preventable diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Early diagnosis or identification of risk factors can delay the onset or limit the severity of these disorders. PathWest’s health screening offers routine biochemistry analysis for all employees whether they work indoors or outside. A number of common diseases can be identified early when employees are offered targeted screening programs.
Fasting Blood Glucose
To predict the onset of diabetes. This can be particularly important for women who develop transient diabetes during pregnancy. Many adults can prevent the onset of diabetes by changing their lifestyle. For this to be possible they need to know their blood glucose level.
Fasting Cholesterol and Lipids
Cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and strokes. Along with cholesterol we measure triglyceride, low-density cholesterol (LDL) and high-density cholesterol (HDL) levels, and determine an estimate of cardiovascular risk based on these values. High cholesterol levels are readily treated either by lifestyle changes or by cholesterol lowering drugs.

Iron Studies and Full Blood Count
For the diagnosis of iron deficiencies or iron overload.
Liver and Kidney Function
Screening for impaired liver and kidney function.
Thyroid Disease
This can be identified early by measuring TSH in at risk groups, such as women older than 35 years or those with a family history of thyroid disease or thyroid antibodies.
Cotinine
Cotinine measured in urine can be used to monitor passive smoking in the work place and it will show the employee’s success if they are on an anti-smoking or quit programs.
If any abnormalities are detected in cholesterol or glucose levels, or if there is any indication of organ dysfunction, PathWest will refer to your organisation’s health and safety policies, and discuss the matter according to these policies.
Travel Medicine
PathWest offers a comprehensive clinical consultation service covering all aspects of microbiology. We can provide direction and advice on travel vaccination, vaccinations related to occupational health and investigation and management of infectious diseases.
