Coagulation

The Coagulation department carries out investigations into a wide range of congenital or acquired bleeding disorders and thrombotic conditions for adults, newborns & paediatric patients. Specific testing includes Thrombophilia Screening, tests for specific factor deficiencies, von Willebrand's studies and a range of assays to monitor patients on anticoagulant therapy.

We offer a comprehensive examination into platelet disorders including platelet aggregation in platelet rich plasma, whole blood platelet function analysis (PFA), mepacrine staining for platelet dense granules and platelet surface glycoproteins by flow cytometry.

We are the state referral laboratory for some thrombosis risk factors not performed elsewhere in the state.  These include PF 1+2, TAT, tPA, PAI-1, platelet microparticle phospholipids, and plasma anionic phospholipids (XACT test). We also evaluate ADAMTS-13 levels as an aid in the diagnosis of TTP.
