Changes to Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) for genetic screening referral pathways at PathWest

27/08/2026

From 3 September 2026, there will be a change to the referral pathway for Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) at PathWest.

What is changing?

From 3 September 2026, PathWest collection centres will only collect NIPT specimens on a current Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS) request form.

PathWest will no longer collect NIPT specimens for other NIPT providers.

If you are planning to have a NIPT through PathWest, please ensure you have a current VCGS request form before attending a collection centre.

From 3 September 2026, PathWest collection centres will only collect NIPT specimens requested on a VCGS request form. PathWest will no longer stock the collection materials required by other NIPT providers and will no longer collect specimens on their behalf. If you have a request form from another NIPT provider, you may:

  • Attend a collection centre operated by that provider; or
  • Contact your referring clinician and request a VCGS request form if you wish to attend a PathWest collection centre.

Patients attending a PathWest collection centre on or after 3 September 2026 with a request form from another provider will be unable to proceed with specimen collection and will be advised of the options above.

PathWest collection staff are unable to amend, substitute or redirect request forms.
