PathWest Recognises Blood Cancer Awareness Month

01/09/2026

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to recognise the impact of blood cancers on individuals, families and communities across Western Australia, and to highlight the important role PathWest plays in supporting diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care.

As Western Australia’s public pathology provider, PathWest delivers specialised haematology services that assist clinicians in diagnosing and managing blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Through a combination of advanced laboratory testing, specialist medical expertise and research participation, PathWest helps ensure patients have access to timely, accurate and evidence-based care.

PathWest supports blood cancer care through:

  • Advanced diagnostic testing using flow cytometry, routine haematology, cytogenetics and molecular technologies to support accurate diagnosis and disease monitoring.
  • Specialist haematology expertise, where laboratory findings are integrated with clinical information to help guide diagnosis, prognosis and treatment decisions.
  • Complex treatment support, including transfusion medicine, biobanking and cellular therapy services that contribute to the safe delivery of specialised treatments and stem cell programs.
  • Statewide accessibility, ensuring specialised pathology services are available to metropolitan, regional and remote communities throughout Western Australia.
  • Research and innovation, with PathWest specialists contributing to clinical trials and translational research that support the development of emerging therapies.

PathWest acknowledges the patients, families, clinicians, researchers and support organisations working to improve outcomes for people affected by blood cancer, while reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic and laboratory services across Western Australia.
