Medicare Assignment of Benefit – changes from 1st July.

 
PathWest is a bulk billing pathology service, we will bulk bill the cost of your tests to Medicare provided there is a Medicare fee available for that test (unfortunately not all tests are covered by Medicare click here for more information).
 
For PathWest to bulk bill your tests, you will need to sign the “Medicare Assignment” box on your pathology request form (example below).

• When you attend our patient collection centres, our staff will show you where to complete the pre-assignment box, sign and date.
• If your doctor or medical practice is collecting the tests to submit to PathWest, please ask them to allow you to sign the “Medicare Assignment” box.

Note:

• If you have not signed the “Medicare Assignment” box, then you will receive a bill for your tests in the mail. Some/all of these tests may still be claimed by you from Medicare directly.
• If the information provided in the “Medicare Assignment” box is incomplete, we will assume that your assignment type was “pre-assignment”.
