WACIC Biobank for Participants

We are currently recruiting!

We are looking for volunteers to participate if:

  • you or your child have had a COVID-19 infection
  • you or your child have been identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 Case
  • you or your child are planning to receive, or have received one or more doses of a COVID-19 vaccine

Please complete an Expression of Interest Form to receive the participant information sheet.

What’s involved?

If you agree to be involved, one of our team will call you to complete an enrolment phone call and to collect some initial information about you. You will then be asked to provide a blood sample and a saliva sample at a number of timepoints. The number of time points will differ depending on your situation and which of the recruitment categories you fit into (listed above, and in detail in the participant information sheet). You may be asked to provide these samples during an appointment at one of our participating hospital sites, or it may be possible for you to attend your nearest PathWest Collection Centre instead.

What will happen with my samples?

Your samples will be sent to one of our participating laboratory sites for processing and storage. Our current laboratory sites are:

  • UWA at QEII in Nedlands
  • IIID at Murdoch University in Murdoch
  • PathWest at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch

Researchers can then apply to the Biobank to use your samples and information in their research projects that are related to COVID-19 immunity. All research projects are reviewed by a Human Research Ethics Committee and the WACIC Biobank’s Scientific Governance Committee before being approved, and any information or samples released to researchers is completely de-identified, which means it is completely anonymous.

What projects have used samples from the Biobank?

We are currently in the data collection phase of our project and no samples or data have been used for research projects yet. If you are a researcher and wish to request access to the Biobank, please click here for more information. [insert link to For Researchers page]
