Flow Cytometry
Flow cytometry involves the identification of cells based on characteristics such as light scatter properties, antigen-antibody interactions, and DNA content. In a clinical setting flow cytometry is useful for identification and characterisation of leukaemias, lymphomas and other haematological related disorders.
Current flow cytometric tests available at PathWest include;
- Lymphocyte subset analysis
- Malignancy immunophenotyping
- CD34 enumeration
- Paroxymal nocturnal haemoglobunuria screening
- Hereditary spherocytosis screening
- Natural killer cell function
- CD40 ligand
- FasLigand Assay
- Neutrophil Function Tests
A Flow Cytometry Advisory Group (FCAG) representing PathWest Flow Cytometry Laboratories has formed to provide expertise on the adoption and standardization of best practice and to provide a point of reference for all stakeholders with regards to flow cytometry related services.
