Flow Cytometry

Flow cytometry involves the identification of cells based on characteristics such as light scatter properties, antigen-antibody interactions, and DNA content. In a clinical setting flow cytometry is useful for identification and characterisation of leukaemias, lymphomas and other haematological related disorders.

Current flow cytometric tests available at PathWest include;
    • Lymphocyte subset analysis
    • Malignancy immunophenotyping
    • CD34 enumeration
    • Paroxymal nocturnal haemoglobunuria screening
    • Hereditary spherocytosis screening
    • Natural killer cell function
    • CD40 ligand
    • FasLigand Assay
    • Neutrophil Function Tests
A Flow Cytometry Advisory Group (FCAG) representing PathWest Flow Cytometry Laboratories has formed to provide expertise on the adoption and standardization of best practice and to provide a point of reference for all stakeholders with regards to flow cytometry related services.
