Molecular Haematology
The Molecular Haematology department at PathWest provides molecular analysis and monitoring for a range of haematological malignancies and other blood related conditions. We are the sole reference laboratory in Western Australia for the monitoring of chronic and acute myeloid leukaemia by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), providing the service for all of Western Australia’s public and private patients. The Molecular Haematology laboratory also performs a range of prognostic tests for various genetic markers associated with acute myeloid leukaemia, as well as testing for known genetic risk factors that predispose individuals for stroke and other thrombotic complications. Furthermore the laboratory also performs chimerism studies for the monitoring of patients post bone marrow transplantation.
Our assays are performed using state-of-the-art techniques that are subject to rigorous quality testing by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) and audit by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).
