Anatomical Pathology Registrar Training
PathWest Anatomical Pathology is the premier statewide Anatomical Pathology registrar training centre. Centrally organised training means junior Registrars gain a broad experience as they rotate through six Pathwest laboratories and private Pathology laboratories. Our training program has resulted in a high exam pass rate for our trainees and are currently 26 RCPA accredited registrars are in training.
Anatomical Pathology Registrars report one on one with Consultant Pathologists in a host of subspecialty areas. They learn specimen grossing, microscopy, reporting and the ‘Art of Pathology’. Registrars also have ongoing support for involvement in departmental research projects and poster or oral presentations at local and national conferences. Pathwest offers additional educational opportunities including weekly Journal Club / Literature Review sessions, Histopathology and Cytopathology puzzle trays, macro / grossing sessions and daily dermatopathology teaching.
Consultants also give their time to provide topic-based teaching sessions and exam preparation sessions in the lead up to exams. Registrars also rotate in Molecular Pathology to better understand the molecular underpinnings of diseases.
