Dermatopathology

The dermatopathology at PathWest is a subspecialist clinical and academic team composed of a group of highly skilled and experienced dermatopathologists, providing the following services:

  • A statewide high quality and timely diagnostic public service to patients with skin disease and their treating clinicians.
  • Participation and active involvement in several weekly multidisciplinary meetings in plastic surgery and dermatology across multiple tertiary hospitals in Perth.   
  • A national and international consultative service for pathologists and clinicians dealing with unusual skin diseases.
  • A referral service for complex cases in which cytogenetic, molecular and other ancillary testing may be of value, including but not limited to challenging melanocytic tumours, skin lymphomas and non-neoplastic conditions.
  • Active involvement in research in dermatopathology, including histopathological, molecular and basic science research in skin disease.
  • Contributing to the post-graduate education of practitioners and trainees in pathology, dermatology, general practice and other specialities dealing with skin disease.
  • An accredited training site for candidates willing to peruse the RCPA Diploma in Dermatopathology.
  • Preferred local pathology site for national and international clinical trials in melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
