  • Dr Ming Chai and Dr Simon Kavanagh appointed as Acting Chief Pathologists in a dual-acting arrangement. 16 June 2026 PathWest proudly celebrates the appointments of senior pathologists Dr Ming Chai and Dr Simon Kavanagh as Acting Chief Pathologists. This dual-acting arrangement ensures PathWest benefits from enhanced depth of leadership while allowing both exceptional medical professionals to maintain their vital clinical practices. Dr Ming Chai will commence the first six-month rotation on 20 July 2026, followed by Dr Simon Kavanagh in January 2027. PathWest will launch a formal recruitment process for the permanent Chief Pathologist position towards the end of the final term. PathWest is delighted that outgoing Chief Pathologist Dr Priyanthi Kumarasinghe will continue to lead the organisation’s scientific advancement in her ongoing role as Head of Research & Innovation.   • It's the most wonderful time of the year! 21 December 2021 What fun and festivity PathWest staff have engaged in over the last few weeks working together to create fantastic entries into our PathWest Christmas Decoration Competition! We were overwhelmed with interest and received thirty entries from throughout our sites and services. The judges managed to visit all entries within QEII Medical Centre and Fiona Stanley Hospital on Friday and assessed online entries from other areas that could not be attended on the day. Everyone went above and beyond and created visual and sometimes interactive spectacles that quite honestly overawed our panel of judges. Our judges rated each entry on originality/creativity, presentation and effort/participation.   • Recognition of Service Awards 2021 30 November 2021 PathWest held their Recognition of Service Awardson Friday 26 November at UWA Club where we honoured our 20, 30, 40 and 50 year long serving staff members. We celebrated 67 staff members who have reached a 20, 30, 40 or 50-year year milestone. This equates to a massive 1510 years of collective service! There are also local 10 year celebrations taking place throughoutthe service with a further 111 recipients amounting to a further 1,110 years of service.     Key accomplishments feature in 2020-2021 Annual Report 14 October 2021 2020-2021 has been one of the most remarkable and challenging in PathWest’s history. A year in which we became the backbone of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Western Australia, providing results for more than 630,000 COVID-19 tests (now nearing 1 million!), delivering a rapid testing solution to remote regions, testing wastewater and coordinating specimen collection at border points and quarantine sites.
