  • Sampling time recommendations for mast cell tryptase in association with suspected event causing mast cell activation 22 December 2023 This service update is regarding PathWest sampling time recommendations for mast cell tryptase in association with a suspected event causing mass cell activation (e.g. anaphylaxis). The changes are in line with sampling times recommended in UK and Australian guidelines published by the Australian and New Zealand Anaesthetic Allergy Group (ANZAAG), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI). Sample collections for mast cell tryptase are now recommended to be taken: Close to 1-2 hours after the event (no later than 4 hours), and At least 24 hours after the event to obtain a baseline level.   • 2023 festive season opening hours 19 December 2023 PathWest metropolitan collection centres are closed on the Monday 25 December 2023, Tuesday 26 December 2022 and Monday 1 January 2023 public holidays. For those centres that usually open on Saturdays, we are open on Saturday 23 and 30 December and our regular opening hours resume on Tuesday 2 January 2023.   • Collaborative success at the WA Stem Cell Transplant and CAR-T Therapy Workshop 13 December 2023 On Friday 27 October, the inaugural WA Stem Cell Transplant and CAR-T Therapy Workshop was held at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Education Building. It was a great opportunity for the 106 attendees (adult and paediatric patients and their families) to learn about aspects oftransplantand cell therapies and to hear from the community support organisations that provide post-transplant services in WA. The Workshop was hosted by the FSH Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, which includes PathWest Bone Marrow Transplant Laboratory, FSH Medical Haematology, Ward 7D and Cancer Centre, and WA Paediatric and Adolescent Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Program at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). Having recently received her 10-year Recognition of Service Award, Shae has played an integral role in the LIS team, contributing significantly to the development, implementation, and operational phases of the LIS. Beyond her regular duties, Shae has made a remarkable impact on enhancing the LIS and patient care. This includes dedicating long hours during software updates and addressing major issues to ensure the lab system runs effectively. Shae extends her contributions by building and maintaining strong working relationships internally (with discipline Subject Manager Experts) and externally (with LIS vendor groups).
